چکیده

BRUGADA SYNDROME displays characteristic electrocardiographic (ECG) changes consisting of ST elevation in the anterior chest leads (V1-V3) and incomplete right bundlebranch block. It often presents with syncope or sudden death. As Brugada syndrome is being increasingly recognized, more patients with this syndrome will present for ICD implantation and other noncardiac surgery. The potential pharmacologic and physiologic changes that accompany anesthesia increase the risk of these patients developing a significant arrhythmia or cardiac dysfunction. The authors present a newly diagnosed case, the subsequent anesthetic management and complications, and a review of the current literature.

Anesthetic management of a patient with Brugada syndrome - the use of sugammadex in major abdominal surgery.

Brugada syndrome is characterized by right bundle-branch block, ST elevation in leads V 1 through V 3 and normal QT interval. Ventricular fibrillation frequently occurs in patients with Brugada syndrome. There have been few reports of anesthetic management of Brugada patients. We managed a 47-year-old man with Brugada syndrome, who underwent hemilaminectomy under general anesthesia, without unt...

Brugada Syndrome: Management and Anaesthetic Implications: A Case Report

Brugada syndrome (BrS) is a genetically determined disorder and has an autosomal dominant pattern of transmission, with incomplete penetrance and variable expression. These alterations may predispose to the development of reentrant arrhythmias, and therefore cause ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation. Patients may be asymptomatic, but they are prone to develop ventricular tachyc...

Tramadol use in a patient with Brugada syndrome and morphine allergy: a case report

Brugada syndrome is a rare syndrome characterized by arrhythmias and sudden death, particularly in younger individuals. A mutation in a gene encoding the human cardiac sodium channels is responsible for this syndrome. In the literature, there are several case reports of Brugada syndrome in association with the use of several anesthetic agents. Herein, we present our anesthetic practice and the ...

General anesthesia for electroconvulsive therapy with Brugada electrocardiograph pattern.

Brugada syndrome is characterized by an electrocardiograph pattern of right bundle-branch block and has an increased risk for cardiac arrest due to malignant arrhythmia. We describe the successful anesthetic management for electroconvulsive therapy in a patient with Brugada electrocardiograph pattern. Patients with Brugada ECG pattern are not recommended to use neostigmine which augments ST ele...

Brugada Syndrome: A Review of Peri-operative Management for the Anesthesiologist

It is important for the anesthesiologist to be familiar with Brugada syndrome (BS) since known and unknown BS patients may present for surgery. BS accounts for four percent of all sudden deaths and up to twenty percent of sudden deaths in patients without structural cardiac defects [1]. Proper identification of BS is important as the two year mortality approaches 30 percent [2]. Review of the l...
